- OVERVIEW
Arthur
Gorrie Correctional Centre
Opened in 1992 at Wacol just outside Brisbane, Arthur Gorrie
Correctional Centre is a high security remand and reception facility for over
700 male offenders. Innovative programs for drug dependant
inmates and those assessed as being at risk of self harm
have resulted in the centre being the first correctional
facility in Queensland to be awarded the maximum five star
rating by the National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA).
Fulham Correctional Centre
Located near Sale in eastern Victoria, Fulham Correctional
Centre is a 782-bed medium to minimum security facility
occupying 50 acres of open space with the look of a campus.
Inmates are contained by highly efficient custodial technology
allowing for more open space and flexibility than most prisons.
Nalu
Challenge Community
Nalu
is a 68-bed unit located next to the Fulham facility at
Sale. The unit focuses on young first time offenders who
are assessed to participate in an intensive therapy and
adventure-based challenge program. A strong emphasis is
also placed on developing living skills, work skills and
pre and post release preparation and support.
Junee
Correctional Centre
In 1988 the NSW State Government called for expressions
of interest from local councils in locating a new correctional
centre. Junee was selected from the 70 councils that responded.
Junee Correctional Centre was opened in 1993. The 750 bed
medium and minimum security facility provides employment
and skills training, comprehensive recovery programs and
therapy. The centre honours cultural diversity and works
hard for its valued place in the community.
Melbourne
Custody Centre
The Melbourne Custody Centre is located in the basement
of the Melbourne Magistrate's Court in the central business
district, and came under The GEO Group Australia management in March 1999.
It is the main reception point for people arrested by police
with 11,000 people processed every year. The constant challenge
is to maintain the highest standards of welfare and safety
while attending to a wide range of medical needs and court
appearances.
