Warming winter’s freeze

Total turtle care at Arthur Gorrie

Breeding ‘bush tucker’ to feed injured native animals is now a major initiative at Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre. The centre is providing food for Australia Zoo’s wildlife hospital and assisting in the rehabilitation of injured native reptiles. August 2011 more

Drawing on global expertise

An operational review team from The GEO Group Inc has conducted an analysis of GEO’s Australian operations. Part of an evaluation of different facilities internationally, the review program is designed to help facilitate continuous improvement and innovation as well as ensure that international best practice is a day-to-day occurrence across GEO’s global operations. Junee shines for kids

The NSW Governor professor Marie Bashir has congratulated The GEO Group Australia and its Junee operation at the opening of the SHINE for Kids Child and Family Centre located at the correctional centre. SHINE for Kids is a program designed to allow children to continue to connect with an incarcerated parent. April 2011 more

GEO supports flood victims

The floods of December 2010 and January 2011 had a devastating impact on communities in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. GEO employees have assisted colleagues directly affected by the floods, while GEO centres supported local flood-affected communities as well as those fighting the floodwaters and dealing with the aftermath. Junee breaks new ground

Junee Correctional Centre (JCC) will be breaking new ground when it combines with Habitat for Humanity, TAFE NSW Riverina Institute and Junee Shire Council in Australia’s first ‘Prison Build’ project. Inmates will build a house at JCC for relocation to a block of land in Junee. December 2010 more

Comic delivers serious message

The humble comic book is to be used to deliver a serious message to indigenous youth on the ramifications of engaging in criminal activity and spending time in prison. Fulham Correctional Centre has played a key role in the development of this unique comic titled ‘Stay Out’. December 2010 more

Community partnership success

Two state governments have acknowledged GEO for the community partnerships it has forged in 2010. Fulham Correctional Centre won the ‘Most Outstanding Location Based Project’ at the Corrections Victoria Community Work Partnership Awards, while Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre has received a Minister’s Award for Excellence in Community Safety.
